Summer of Tours: Zines at the Ohio State University Library - IN-PERSON

Friday, June 16, 2023 (9:00 AM - 11:30 AM) (EDT)

Description

Join Jolie Braun, Curator of Modern Literature and Manuscripts in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library at Ohio State University for a look at the library's zine collection. Zines are small magazines that creators typically self-publish and self-distribute on a specific subject or passion. Braun will discuss how the library acquired the publications, how they are organized, and the breadth of the collection. This program will take place in the Thompson Special Collections Classroom, room 105 at the Ohio State University Main Library. Participants can use a photo ID to get a free locker key from the reading room attendant, as bags and purses are not allowed in room 105. (Laptops, ipads, and phones are okay.) Participants will: 1. Acquire a basic definition and history of zines and their role in self-expression; 2. Be introduced to the OSUL zine collection, and the range of topics and publications there; 3. Understand the process and basis for organizing a collection of eclectic items.
